Design Practice/Exercise 2
The point of this exercise is to get familiar with the Sketch App and certain tools that we will be using while attending the Ironhack bootcamp. The goal was to pick an app that you use constantly, take a screen shoot and attempt to replicate it as much as possible. In order to attain familiarity its recommended that every 3 day we take a screenshoot of an app we use and try to replicate it. The one you will see here is my first attempt to recreating one of my favorite apps. Being mindful that I do not have a background in UX/UI Design, nor am I familiar with the apps, I think I did rather well for a rookie.
The app that I chose was the Apple Music app, mostly because I use it daily. Also the design sticks out and its easy to replicate. Not a lot of colors being implemented besides the album covers. Something that I found a little difficult where the Icons for the toolbars, some I created from scratch others I look around online and was able to find. So without further do, here is a copy of my work. Left hand side is my design, right side is the original copy.
I decided to group tother certain areas in order to keep things more organized. If you look at the left hand side of the screen you can see the groupings. Inside they contained a lot of the shapes that I used during the creation of the replica. I did however run into an issue when it came to mixing the background colors for the app. If you notice on the right hand side, there is a mixture of black and while/grey unlike my design its fully dark. This took me roughly over 4 hours to complete. Mostly because I’m still not familiar with some of the tools, but through repetition Im sure I’ll get it.
Something I also notice was the simplicity of the Apple Music App. It has a rather appealing look, the combination of the dark/light background really brings out the colors of the album covers. The typography is also very simple and appealing, nothing too crazy or over the top. Overall this was a fun project and I got to learn more about Sketch and its usability.
Thank you for reading, leave a clap and some comments. Feedback is also encouraged, it helps me improve on my skills.
